Web Design Company?
March 2nd, 2010 | by admin |Please dont comment on age i believe i am mature enough.
I am 15 going 16 years this year and want to start a web design company. My dad has briefed me out with just about everything. I just want to start a small work at home business and if successful maybe carry on after school. I would like to branch it out in years to come so it covers most aspects of computers and i.t eg. repairs, web design, networking, retail etc. There is only one other web designing company where i live so competition isn’t much. Ideas for names and anything that would be of help is greatly appreciated.
By the way i’ve have learnt -
CSS
HTML
Flash
Javascript
Is there anything else i need to learn besides mySQL i’m doing that now.
You have a good start, but I’d recommend a few things:
Don’t settle for plain HTML. Learn XHTML strict – by hand.
Use CSS for layout. Don’t use tables or a tool like Dreamweaver. CSS layout will work wonders for you in the long run.
You need a server-side language. MySQL won’t do you much good unless you have a server-side language. PHP would be my recommendation, because it’s free and easily available.
You’ll also need to consider server options, because you’ll need to host these pages somewhere.
I’d recommend you don’t spread yourself too thin. Concentrate on web development or hardware and repair. (Of the two, development offers by far more options)
Consider getting some good books and taking classes. There’s a lot to learn.

I agree with another one of the answers, you need to learn CSS. Tables suck, don’t ever use them unless you need to. Learn MySQL and the basics of PHP. XML is another very powerful tool to creating easily updated applications in Flash. If you learn Flash, learn AS 3.0.
